Amendment in NOC

On November 16, IRCC implemented the NOC 2021, which is the amended version of NOC 2016. The NOC or National Occupation Classification system is used to assess the applicant's profession and skill level in the Express Entry system.

The updated system classifies occupations on the basis of TEER or training, education, experience, and responsibility required. The TEER system has updated the skill levels 0-E of NOC 2016 and introduced equivalent five groups of TEERS.

In the new TEER system, there are 16 occupations eligible for the system of Express Entry. The occupations which have been deemed ineligible are still admissible through other pathways for economic immigration like the PNP or Provincial Nominee Program.

Eligible occupation under the new NOC

The implementation of the new NOC aims to resolve workforce shortages in specific sectors. The 16 eligible occupations under the new NOC are:

  • Payroll administrators
  • Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates
  • Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants
  • Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
  • Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants
  • Sheriffs and bailiffs
  • By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers
  • Correctional service officers
  • Estheticians, electrologists, and other related occupations
  • Pest controllers and fumigators
  • Residential and commercial installers and servicers
  • Other repairers and servicers
  • Bus drivers, subway operators, and other transit operators
  • Transport truck drivers
  • Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors
  • Heavy equipment operators

How to update your Canada Express Entry Profile as per new TEER/NOC Code?

Express Entry to change in 2023

The Express Entry might have a few changes in the late 2022 and 2023. Express Entry draws will function according to the recent changes and CRS scores will be the primary factor in evaluating eligible candidates to be sent an ITA to apply for Canada PR or permanent residency.

In 2023, Canada would be conducting targeted draws to address its economic and job market needs.
