• In 2024, Malta issued over 33,400 first-time residency permits to third-country nationals. 
• 4,073 permits were linked to the Malta Permanent Residency Program and Nomad visa scheme. 
• A total number of 1,500 requests were made for the Malta Permanent Residence Programme in 2024. 
• The Malta Residency permit generated €46 million for the Consolidated Fund.

Foreign nationals were granted first-time Malta residence permit 

A total number of 33,445 Malta first-time residencies were issued to third-country nationals in 2024. 4,073 were linked to the Malta Permanent Residence Program (MPRP), the Residency and Visa Program (MRVP), and the Nomad Visa scheme. According to the News, there was a surge in residency permits issued through the Malta Residency Program (MPRP), the Malta Residency and Visa Program, and the Nomad visa scheme. Malta’s Permanent Residence Programme issued 1,500 residency permits in 2024, mainly for €46 million in consolidated funds, €50 million in five-year lease contracts, and €36 million in purchase of funds. In 2023, there were 1,031 applications for the Nomad Residence Program.

Increased Number of Foreign Workers in Malta

Malta is facing labor shortages in various occupation sectors. Manufacturing, healthcare, construction, food service, hospitality, and transportation were the industries most affected. According to the same report, foreign nationals interested in living and working in Malta have higher chances of securing employment in the country if they meet the requirements of the job positions.
