Abstract: Germany is planning to attract approximately 400,000 international skilled workers to address the shortage in the workforce.

Germany is planning to ease its immigration policies to attract more international skilled professionals. To address the shortage in the workforce, it hopes to attract an additional 400,000 skilled workers.

Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany has stated that the cabinet has approved the measures to permit foreign nationals beyond the European Union to start work immediately. The individuals are required to have signed a contract with an employer in Germany to start work with immediate effect.

The vocational qualifications of the skilled workers would be assessed later.

The government of Germany aims to make it convenient for young immigrants to pursue vocational training or studies in the country. The plan aims for a streamlined points system for international individuals wanting to work in Germany.

How to work in Germany?

International professionals can apply for a single permit for work and residence after they have entered Germany at the Ausländerbehörde or German Immigration Authorities. Immigrants are required to have a valid visa authorized by the German Embassy for entry into the country. The application process is given below:

  • Application for the German Job-Seeker Visa or Employment Visa at the Embassy of Germany.
  • Registration of the residence address at the local Citizens' Registration Office.
  • Obtain health insurance.
  • Schedule an appointment at the office of German Immigration Authorities.
  • Prepare the necessary documents.
  • Submit the application for a work and residence permit at the German Immigration Authorities office.

After the candidate has received their residence permit, they can commence working in Germany.
