Alberta's new program for skilled immigrants working in trades

Canada has one of the trade industry's most pressing labor market gaps. As per the federal and provincial levels, Canada is always looking to attract skilled workers who can help support the workforce.

 

Alberta's new program, "Alberta is Calling Program," was announced in April 2024. This program will offer 2,000 eligible skilled tradespeople a once with a refundable tax credit of $5000.

 

The eligibility criteria for to apply for Alberta is calling program:

It is necessary for candidates to fulfill some eligible criteria to apply for this program, including:

 

  • Must be aged above 18 years
  • Either Canada PR holder or Canadian citizen
  • Be a Tax resident of Alberta by December 31, 2024
  • Must reside in the province for at least 12 months before the time they apply
  • Migrated to that particular province between May 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024

Alberta’s Trade industry

The trade occupation industry in Alberta has long experienced a significant labor shortage. Nine different trade industry occupations are currently listed as in high demand by the Government of Alberta.
