On May 1st, Alberta is all set to ease and lift the restrictions on recruiting the new temporary foreign workers.

All the applications submitted on the waiting list before May 1st are subject to this change.

Before the change, the government of Alberta had a "refusal to process" list that contained professions for which the employees couldn't submit applications to the Canadian government to hire temporary foreign workers in the province.

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is operated by the Canadian government, denying the TFWP applications for these professions at the suggestion of the Alberta government. According to the Alberta government, these were the professions that had labor surpluses. Alberta was looking to encourage and motivate all the employers to recruit the unemployed Albertans for these professions instead.

Alberta has spoken of easing the TFWP restrictions based on supporting the sectors of the provincial economy that are struggling with the job shortages and finding Canadian workers.

According to the Canadian Statistics report, the provinces have vacancies for about 88,000 jobs.

Alberta states that it will make the necessary adjustments and monitor the change to ensure that the TFWP reaps the benefit of its economy.

The primary purpose of the TFWP is to allow the employers in Canada to recruit foreign workers to occupy the job vacancies in place of the Canadian citizens or permanent residents. An employer must submit a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) application to the government of Canada.

In early April, the Canadian government eased its TFWP rules in reaction to the country's historically low unemployment and high job vacancy rate.

Canada's unemployment rate stands the lowest on the record at 5.3 percent.
