Importance of Provincial Nominee Program in Ontario

Ontario invited 1,98,000 new permanent residents, which is 49% of all the new permanent residents in Canada. As Ontario is the largest city with the largest population, it isn't surprising to know the number of invitations issued. Most newcomers settle in Ontario because of its well-developed support systems, established immigrant communities, and a strong economy. Ontario's Immigrant Nominee Program has nine crucial pathways through which individuals can settle. Ontario's Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is introduced to help immigrants who can promote the needs of the local job market. Also read... In that case, they can add this to their permanent residence application to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Every province and territory operates its PNPs except for Quebec and Nunavut. In 2007, Ontario was the last province to introduce PNP due to its large immigrant population. The system introduction created immense opportunities for the newcomers in Canada to establish themselves economically within the province and permitted to select individuals who would meet the workforce's needs.

Ontario offers multiple streams

Upper Canada offers multiple provincial nomination streams with sub-streams and a total of nine Ontario provincial immigration pathways under it.

French Speaking Skilled Worker Class

Ontario offers the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Class to individuals with high skills in official languages. It operates similarly to the FSWP regarding education, proof of funds, and work experience. The candidates must have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 6 in English and 7 in French.

Human Capital Priority Steams

The Human Capital Priority Streams functions with the Express Entry application system. The eligible candidates under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) are qualified for Ontario's provincial nomination through a similar provincial stream if they are interested in settling in the province. Skilled Trades Stream

The Express Entry immigration candidates under the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) are qualified for the provincial nomination through the  Skilled trades stream. An EOI is applicable while applying to the provincial government for nomination directly. To submit an Expression of Interest, an individual must finish the statement to apply and only apply to OINP in case of receiving an invitation from the chosen pathway.

Foreign Worker Stream

The Foreign Worker Stream pathway is primarily designed for foreign workers with a job offer from an Ontario employer. The job must be categorized under the NOC codes 0, A, or B and show evidence of an appropriate license or two years' work experience in the same occupation.

International Graduates

The International Graduates stream applies to immigration candidates graduating from universities or colleges in foreign countries with job offers from an employer in Ontario. The job needs to be categorized under NOCs 0, A, or B with the educational requirements mentioned below:

  • Degree, certificate, or diploma that needs one year to complete if studied on a full-time basis and requires a completed degree as an admission requirement
  • Degree or diploma that needs two years to complete if studied on a full-time basis
