Highlights: Apply for any two immigration programs

  • Do you know? You can apply for both Express Entry or Canada PNP, if you meet eligibility
  • Canada offers over 100 economic-class immigration programs
  • Candidate can apply for two immigration programs in Canada
  • Eligible candidate can apply for two programs at once

Canada offers more than 100 immigration programs for the economic class to opt from. It makes it possible for international individuals to be eligible to apply for more than one immigration program in Canada provided they fulfill the eligibility requirements for the programs.

If you fulfill the eligibility criteria for Express Entry as well as PNP or Provincial Nominee Program, IRCC or Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada permits you to submit two applications simultaneously. At the time of decision-making, you have to withdraw one application before the decision can be made on another application for Canada PR or permanent residency. But you need to make a note that if you withraw your application, the processing fee is non-refundable.

Statement by IRCC

IRCC has stated that the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations of Canada do not discourage more than one application from being registered in the economic stream. Although, before the decision is taken on one application, the immigration authorities advise that the other applications be withdrawn.

One Express Entry Profile

The immigration law of Canada does not permit you or any applicant to have more than one profile at a time in the Express Entry system. IRCC has confirmed that multiple profiles will not give candidates better chances of being issued an ITA or Invitation to Apply for permanent residency.

You can, however, register your common-law partner or spouse in your Express Entry application. Each application registered in the Express Entry pool has a PA or Principal Applicant, who is awarded points in the CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System. The PA can include a spouse and or minor-aged children as dependents in the application.

If you are applying as a couple, either you or your partner can be the PA. You can choose which of either partner would be the PA. Both partners should qualify for at least one program managed by Express Entry. It is essential because either of the partners has likely to have a higher CRS score to be issued an ITA.

Eligibility Criteria for Express Entry

Here are the eligibility requirements you need to fulfill to be considered in the Express Entry pool:

  • Have a minimum of 1 year, in the past ten years of uninterrupted full-time or corresponding part-time employment experience in a skilled job
  • Meet the requirement set by Canadian authorities in proficiency in either English or French. It is assessed by CLB or Canadian Language Benchmark. The required score is 7.
  • Graduated from post-secondary education assessed according to the Canadian standards using an Education Credential Assessment

These are the requirements you need to fulfill to apply to the Express Entry system of Canada as a skilled worker.

Cost of Express Entry Processing

The cost of migrating to Canada via Express Entry is approximately 2,300 CAD for a single candidate and around 4,500 CAD for two applicants as a couple. The costs consist:

  • Language tests: Around 300 CAD

Provincial Nominee Program of Canada

The PNP or Provincial Nominee Programs of Canada offers a pathway to Canada PR for immigrants who wish to settle in a particular province or territory of the country.

Each province and territory of Canada has its own PNP requirements designed to address specific demographic and economic needs.

Who can Apply for PNP?

To apply to the Provincial Nominee Program, you must:

  • Fulfill the required eligibility criteria of any of the Canadian territory or province's non-Express Entry streams
  • Be issued a nomination under that stream

Hopefully, the above information was helpful in clarifying your doubts about registering profiles in the Express Entry and PNP pools.
