Australia giving high priority to invite Teachers and Nurses through skilled visas

Australia removed Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL), which was used to rank skilled visa applications. The step has been taken because a wide range of occupations was included in the list. Australia skill shortage increased between 2021 and 2022. The country is also facing the challenge of Teachers and Nurses shortage. It is expected that by 2025, there will be a need for 4,000 teachers.

Occupations to be highly prioritized

The occupations that will be highly prioritized for granting skilled visas are as follows:

  • School teachers
  • Child care workers and child care centre managers
  • Aged and disabled carers
  • Counselors and psychologists
  • Medical scientists
  • Medical technicians
  • Nursing support workers
  • Social workers

Processing time of skilled visas for health and education sector

The Department of Home Affairs revealed that skilled visas for the health and education sectors will be processed within 3 days.
