Highlights: Australia to welcome 185,000 new immigrants in 2024-25

• The Australian government announced the planning level of the permanent Migration Program of 2024-25 on May 14, 2024.
• The Australia Permanent Migration Program will be set at 85,000 places.
• The Permanent Migration Program of 2024-25 will invite immigrants from the Skill stream and Family stream.
• The Special Eligibility stream is estimated for 300 places in 2025-24 Migration Program planning levels.

The Australia Permanent Migration Level Program 2024-25

On May 14, 2024, Australian Government announced that the planning levels for the permanent Migration Program for 2024–25 which will be set at 185,000 places. 

 

The Permanent Migration program will help fill the shortage in priority sectors and prioritize visa processing for regional Australia while we build the domestic pipeline of highly skilled workers.

 

The 2024-25 Migration program will consist of streams such as:

 

• Skill stream (132,200 places): This stream focuses on improving the economy's capacity and filling labor market skill shortages, for those who are in regional Australia.
• Family stream (52,500 places) – This stream focuses on Partner visas, enabling Australians to reunite with family members from overseas and provide them with pathways to citizenship. This stream has two sub-categories:

 

1. For planning 2024–25, 40,500 Partner visas are estimated in this category.
2. For planning 2024–25, 3,000 child visas are estimated in this category.

 

• Special Eligibility stream (300 places) – This stream focuses on those in exceptional circumstances, including permanent residents returning to Australia after a period overseas.

Australia Permanent Migration Program planning level of 2024-25 will be set at 185,000 with an approximate split between family and skill stream:

 

• Employer-Sponsored visa category
• State/Territory Nominated visa category
• Skilled Independent visa category
• Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) visa category
• Global Talent visa category
• Family stream
• State and territory nominated visa categories – nomination allocations

 

Under the Migration Program setting, nomination allocations are available to states and territories under the following categories:

 

• Skilled – Nominated (subclass 190)
• Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491)
