The results of the August Skill Select round of Australia were shocking, to say the least. Even though this is just the beginning of a new program year, the Subclass 189 saw only 100 invitations. This was a 90% decrease in the number of invitations as compared to the previous draw. Also, most of the invites went to candidates scoring 85 points or above. The low invitation numbers could be disappointing for prospective immigrants to Australia.
100 invitations were issued under the family-sponsored Subclass 489 Visa keeping in mind the impending termination of the visa. The minimum score for an invite was 80 points. The latest date of EOI was January 2019.
Occupations whose demand exceeds the number of available visa places are called pro-rata occupations.
Here are the cut-off scores for the pro-rata occupations in the August Skill Select round:
Occ. ID | Occ. Name | Minimum score | Latest date of EOI |
2211 | Accountants | 90 | 20-07-2019 8:54 pm |

Looking at the ongoing high cut-off, candidates who are scoring low should consider the new Regional Visas that will become effective from November 2019.
Applicants who are living and working in Australia should consider applying under the Subclass 190 Visa, as per SBS News. However, states and territories could have other requirements like additional work experience or higher English scores.
