Abstract: Changes in the visa policies will provide skilled workers with pathways for permanent residency in Australia.
The changes in visa policies of Australia were brought into effect on July 1, 2022. It will offer pathways for Australia PR or permanent residency. The people who want to come to Australia to work while vacationing in the country and the graduates affected by the pandemic border closures would benefit from the policy changes.
All the changes will be effective for two years from July 1, 2022.

The key changes in the visa policy of Australia are given below:
TSS or Temporary skill shortage subclass 482 visa holders will have it convenient to apply for permanent residency in Australia.
As of March 31, 2018, there were approximately 52,440 people on the TSS visas or the associated 457 visa. The visa was stopped being issued to new applicants from March 2018.
From July 1, 2022, the visa holders can file an application for TRT or Temporary Residence Transition visa, which facilitates the skilled workers nominated by their employer to live and work in Australia permanently.
Applicants would be eligible if they have stayed in Australia for a minimum of one year between February 1, 2020, and December 14, 2021.
The change will also be applicable to subclass 457 visa holders with the occupation mentioned in the STSOL or Short-term Skilled Occupation List.

Age restrictions will no longer limit the holders of 457 visa to apply for Australia PR in the TRT stream.
Earlier, candidates over 45 years of age were not eligible to apply for permanent residency in Australia.
The eligibility criteria for this age exemption change, the holders of 457 visa are required to have issued the visa from or after April 18, 2017.
They are also required to have been staying in Australia from February 1, 2020, and December 14, 2021, for a minimum of one year.

The temporary graduate visa of Australia facilitates the studying, living, and working of international immigrants in the country. The visa also allows the immigration of familial dependents.
Effective from July 1, 2022, the changes will allow present and former holders of temporary graduate visas to apply for a replacement visa. It was done to compensate for the time lost during the pandemic when the international borders were closed.

The border closure during the pandemic had working holiday makers locked out of Australia. It put a strain on the industries that relied on immigrants' contributions.
From July 1, 2022, there will be a 30% increase in the cap of working holiday makers till 2022-23. It will be applicable to the holiday makers from various countries, which had limitations in the previous policies of the subclass 462 visa.
July 1, 2022, will also mark the restructuring of policies for the migration program. It will offer new opportunities for the immigrants.
The new pathways will help increase the number of skilled workers entering Australia. It is expected that the numbers will rise by over 30,000 places.
The shortage in the labor force has pushed for a focus on the pathways for permanent residency. It will help battle the insecurity caused by increasing levels of temporary migration.
