Highlights of Australia’s increasing number of skilled and parent visas

  • The Government of Australia is planning new steps for an Australian visa to increase the number of skilled and parent visas significantly.
  • The Australian government will also pump in more money into migration programs to the tune of AUD576.
  • The government is also planning to put in more money to hire more staff members to reduce waiting times for visa processing.
  • In 2022, 8,500 new family visas will be allocated.
  • The number of places will be increased from 160,000 to 195,000 for skilled and family visas.

Highlights of latest changes in the Australia Immigration

Here are the highlights of the latest decisions:

  • The Australian government led by PM Antony Albanese will increase the number of parent visas by doubling it. The number of skilled visas will also be increased significantly.
  • This government has restored some of the funding for Australia’s migration programs that were previously cut by the erstwhile Morrison government.
  • The DHA will get an extra amount of AUD576 over a period of four years for Australian visa processing. The aim is to overcome the shortage of money used to fund the maintenance of Australia’s visa processing centers abroad.
  • Extra funding of AUD36 million will be provided to hire more people to work and bring down the processing time of Australian visas.
  • The Australian government would raise the number of places allotted for family and skilled visas. This increase will be from 160,000 to 195,000.
  • The Australian government will bring in a new Pacific Engagement Visa meant for those who are citizens of Pacific Island countries as well as Timor-Leste.
  • From 2023, up to 3,000 places will be available annually in addition to the 195,000 people available under the permanent visa program.
  • The number of skilled visas will be increased from 79,600 to 142,400. These visas could be skilled independent, employed sponsored, state and territory nominated visas, and regional.
  • The allocation for parent visas under family visas will be increased to 8,500 in 2022 from 4,500 in 2021-2022.
  • Around 100 special eligibility visas and 500 other family visas will be available.
