Abstract: International individuals from Australia will have new rules for travel to Schengen Area.
Australians traveling to Europe will have to apply for the visa waiver program for certain regions of Europe. These new rules will be exclusively applicable to the Schengen Area of Europe. The new rules will come into effect in 2024.
The new travel rules for the Schengen Area require Australian citizens to apply for a waiver for the requirement of a visa.

Europe has introduced the ETIAS or European Travel Authorization and Information System for travel to the Schengen region. It is a new requirement for pre-travel authorization for the countries in the Schengen Area. ETIAS aims to register information about international travelers visiting the Schengen countries for better security.
ETIAS is not any type of visa. It is a system designed for pre-screening to forgo the requirement to apply for a visa for international individuals visiting the Schengen Area for tourism or business. It is valid for a maximum of 90 days.
International individuals wanting to stay in the Schengen Area for more than 90 days in a duration of 6 months are required to apply for the Schengen Visa.
