Highlights: PGWPs extended for 18 additional months

• Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced that PGWPs can now work for 4.5 years.
• The PGWP will now be extended for 18 months.
• Foreign graduates studying in Canada with an expired permit in late 2022 or early 2023 are eligible for the work permit extension.
• Foreign nationals who have surpassed the 90-day restoration period with an expired work permit can have their permits extended.

Great News for International Graduates in Canada: PGWPs can now work for 4.5 years

• International students studying in Canada with an expired work permit can have their PGWP extended for 18 months with additional work experience.
• The candidates who have exceeded the 90-day Restoration period can also have the eligibility to have their status resumed.

The table below shows the number of PGWPs that transitioned to Canadian PRs in the past two years.

• Rémi Larivière, the spokesperson for IRCC, notified that 406,005 candidates transitioned to Permanent Residency in 2021.
• Out of the 406,005 population, 157,000 were recorded to be international students.
• It was set as a new record in 2021, and the number of foreign graduates transitioning has continued to grow in the forthcoming years.
