More than 5 million applications processed in 2022

IRCC reported that since August 2022, Canada has processed nearly half a million applications. IRCC is on track to break records of welcoming 431,000 new permanent residents by the end of 2022. Canada processed the largest number of applications under the temporary residence category. The table below reveals the number of applications processed under different categories:

IRCC implemented changes to improve application processing

IRCC implemented digitization of applications to improve application processing. Applications for citizenship have become 100 percent digital for candidates over the age of 18. IRCC also announced to hire 1,250 new staff for applications streamlining by the end of 2022.

Service standards for application processing

Service standards provide the details of time for processing an application. This standard is different from the actual amount of time that IRCC will take for application processing. IRCC has the aim of processing 80 percent of the applications within service standards across all types of businesses. The table below shows the processing times for different types of applications:

Spousal and child family class sponsorship	12 months
Temporary residence	60 to 120 days

Temporary residence application processing depends upon the following:

• Type of application whether work or study
• Application submitted from inside or outside of Canada

Canada 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced the 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan which reveals that more new permanent residents will be welcomed in the coming three years. The table below shows the details of the plan:
