IRCC has reduced the amount of work experience for caregivers who want to apply for permanent residence in Canada through the Caregiver programs. The work experience requirement is one year instead of two years. IRCC has expectations that this step will help in processing 90 percent of the applications.
New and existing caregivers will be benefitted by this step. Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has announced that the Caregiver programs will become permanent by the start of June 2024. The rule of reduction in work experience requirement will be effective from April 30, 2023.
Canada immigration system launched two caregiver programs in 2019. These programs are Home Child Care Provider (HCCP) and the Home Support Worker (HSW) pilots. The number of caregivers and their family members who became permanent residents in 2022 is 1,100.
