Highlights: Canada has 633,400+ Job Vacancies since September 2023

  • Canada has 633,400 Job Vacancies unchanged since September 2023.  
  • In October there are monthly decreases in payroll employment in 11 sectors.  
  • The monthly gain was recorded in health care social assistance and public administration.    
  • The remaining seven sectors were unchanged.

Details of Payroll employment: 

Payroll employment decreased in October in Manufacturing by 6,900 (-0.4%). The overall loss since July was 16,700 (-1.1%). The different sector of manufacturing was recorded by: 

  • Transportation equipment manufacturing (-1,900; -1.0%)
  • Chemical manufacturing (-1,200; -1.3%) 
  • Fabricated metal product manufacturing (-1,000; -0.6%).

In other provinces of Canada, the manufacturing downfall was recorded by 

  • Ontario (-6,100; -0.9%)
  • Newfoundland and Labrador (-2,100; -17.1%)
  • Quebec (+1,400; +0.3%) 

 

Payroll employment in construction fell by

  • 6,700 (-0.6%) in October
  • 3,600 (+0.3%) in September
  • decrease of 13,100 (-1.1%) in August 

In October the other sectors of construction fell by: 

  • Heavy and civil engineering construction (-2,600; -1.4%)
  • Specialty trade contractors (-2,400; -0.4%) 
  • Construction of buildings (-1,700; -0.6%).

Average wages increased over year in October:

The average weekly earnings have increased by ($1,222), which was little unchanged by the month of October. The sectors like Construction (+1.4% to $1,522) and other services (except public administration) (+1.5% to $1,053) recorded over a month gains in average weekly earnings.  Here are the details of increase in average weekly wages in different months:

Job vacancies in different sectors in 2023:

 

Different sectors noticed an increase in the number of job vacancies. In October, the job vacancies were 633,400 which was unchanged since September, following consecutive month decreases from May to September. The number of unfilled job sectors in October was regarded as the lowest since February. 

The total labor demand concerning filled and unfilled positions declined to (-87,500; -0.5%).

 Job Vacancies in Provinces:

The Job vacancies rose in Quebec by (+7,700 to 151,100) in October. In September, there was a monthly decrease to (-21,100; -8.7%).In October, the job vacancies in Saskatchewan (-5,000 to 19,000) and Prince Edward Island (-800 to 2,400) were decreased.

In October, the highest was in British Columbia (4.3%) and the lowest in Newfoundland and Labrador (3.0%).
