Details of the new reform for International Students:

In 2024, IRCC introduced multiple measures to improve the international student program.

 

The Former Immigration Minister introduced a temporary policy allowing international students to maintain their studies while working more than 20 hours per week. As it is not mentioned how many hours they can work, which means international students can work for a long hour only if they maintain their study program.

 

Not all international students will have this benefit; only eligible students can enjoy it.

Criteria for working more than 20 hours till April 2024:  

International students with study permits meeting the below criteria were eligible and are eligible from January 1 to April 30, 2024:

 

• If you are a full-time student at DLI with a study permit.
• If your study permit has expired, as long as you have maintained your status and are enrolled full-time, you are still eligible to stay in the country.
• Although your study permission has been granted, you must still enter Canada.

 

Note: Any individual who submitted their study permit application before December 7, 2023, cannot work up to 20 hours.

 

Canada has decided to compensate international students by increasing their working hours from 20 to 30 as the number of temporary residents is reduced by limiting post-graduation eligibility.
