Canada upcoming Immigration Plan

The Canadian immigration system is undergoing major changes to manage the increasing number of international students, foreign workers, and permanent residents. By November 1, 2024, Canada will declare its Immigration Levels Plan for the next three years.

The number of temporary residents, including international students and temporary foreign workers, has increased recently. To address the shifts, the Canadian government will introduce this new rule and regulation for immigration rule.

New changes in Canada's Immigration Plan

Canada introduced a significant change: a language proficiency requirement for postgraduate work permit (PGWP) course applicants. After November 1, 2024, all applicants must have French or English language proficiency. University graduates will also need to achieve CLB level 7, while college graduates will be required to reach CLB Level 5.

According to the reports, in the following three years, the number of PGWP permits will be approximately 175,000 fewer post-graduation work permits due to these changes. Due to these changes, the number of temporary residents will be reduced from 6.5% of Canada's total population to 5%.

From 2025, a Spousal open work permit will be granted to limited people and the spouses of highly skilled, specialized workers, such as engineers, executives, lawyers, scientists, and workers in critical labor shortages. Although, spouses of workers involved in essential sectors like construction and healthcare will remain eligible for work permits. This report will also reduce the number of spousal work permits by over 100,000 within the next three years.

These changes will create a balance between welcoming new residents and addressing Canada's economic and labor needs.
