In a News Release by Employment and Social Development Canada on March 21, 2023, the government of Canada announced a hike in the per-hour minimum wage for all federally regulated workers and interns from $15.55 to $16.65 w.e.f April 1, 2023.

The updated federal wages are now applicable to all the private sectors, which are federally regulated, including:
Air transportation (airlines, aerodromes, airports and related operations) |
Radio and TV broadcasting |
Banks (approved foreign banks) |
Railways that either cross international borders or provincial borders and a few short-line railways |
Grain elevators, feed warehouses, feed & seed mills, and grain-seed washing plants |
Road transportation (buses and trucks that either cross international borders or provincial borders |
Indigenous self-governments and first nations band councils (specific activities) |
Telecommunications (telephone, telegraph, cable systems and Internet) |
A few federal Crown corporations, like Canada Post Corporation |
Uranium processing and mining and atomic energy |
Port service, ferries, marine shipping, tunnels, bridges, oil and gas pipelines and canals, cross either provincial borders or international borders |
Courier & postal services |

With the rise in the federal minimum wage, all employers must pay the rate higher among the federal minimum wages or the minimum wage in specific province/territory operations.
