Abstract: Canada would be conducting specialized draws for skilled immigrants from 2023.

Canada will be holding targeted draws for international skilled professionals from the start of 2023. It would facilitate them to nominate candidates with in-demand skills required in the provinces and territories of Canada that are facing a shortage in the workforce.

The primary focus will be on nominating more healthcare professionals, such as doctors and nurses. The provinces which have streamlined processes to welcome healthcare professionals will witness the deployment of such professionals.

Eligibility for these draws

The targeted draws for skilled immigrants in Canada will begin in 2023. It will give Canada the freedom to select professionals by specific sectors that they have skills in and the region of Canada that would be allocated to.

In Canada, many immigrants coming to the country through economic pathways are awarded points in the CRS or Comprehensive Ranking System on the basis of:

  • Language skills
  • Educational Qualifications
  • Age
  • Work experience
  • Other skills

Candidates with the highest score are invited to apply for Canada PR visa or permanent residency.

Targeted Draws for Healthcare workers from 2023

The targeted draws will help Canada to nominate candidates with specific skills and allocate them to regions facing workforce shortages in that particular sector.

Canada is facing a shortage in its workforce. The latest data for job vacancies show that there are approximately 958,500 vacant positions in Canada in August 2022.

The country plans to issue 1.45 million Canada PRs in the next 3 years. The targeted draws will be held through the "high skilled" category of Canada. It would be accounting for approximately 21.1% of new immigrants in that period.

Canada also needs skilled construction workers to boost the housing facilities for the increased numbers of newcomers arriving in the country.
