As per the Educational Testing Service (ETS), the Canada Student Direct Stream (SDS) will now accept the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test scores.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have approved the test. Earlier, IELTS used to be the only acceptable test option for the Student Direct Stream.

The SDS, a study permit processing programme in Canada, facilitates a quicker route for international students. This program is for students who are planning to enroll in one of Canada’s designated learning institutions providing post-secondary education.
With this change, educational institutions will get wider access to more applicants who can show their English language proficiency through these premier test scores.
The country also plans to start accepting the PTE Academic test for the stream for the same reason. Students can send their TOEFL iBT scores for their SDS application starting August 10, 2023.
