More people from Spain and Israel will now have access to the Work and Holiday Maker (WHM) Visa of Australia. The announcement was recently made by the Dept. of Immigration.
The number of visa places for Spain has been increased to 3,400. It is double the quota available last year. For Israel, the number of visa places has been increased from 500 to 2500. These changes are effective from the 28th December 2018.
David Coleman, Immigration Minister, recently issued a press release. He said the number of visas has been increased due to the new initiatives implemented in November 2018. These initiatives address the shortage of labour that the agricultural sector is currently facing in Australia.
Mr Coleman also announced that the number of visa places for Peru would also be increased from 100 to 1,500. This would be effective from 2nd January 2019, as per SBS News.
The increase in the quota will allow many more young people from Spain and Israel to avail the WHM Visa. This visa allows applicants to enjoy a 12-month Australian holiday. During their stay, they may take up temporary work or study in Australia.
The changes in the WHM Visa of Australia will help regional areas of Australia. More workers will now be encouraged to work in these areas.
Working in the regional areas on their first visa will make Spanish and Israeli applicants eligible for a second WHM Visa. They will be eligible for a third visa if they work for 6 months in regional areas on their second visa. This arrangement will come into effect from 1st July 2019.
The WHM Visa of Australia has arrangements with 42 nations across the globe.
