*Do you think it’s high time Spain had a visa for digital nomads? Well, it’s here!
Spain has decided to launch a Digital Nomad visa with the aim to develop an ecosystem of emerging enterprises in the country. The law to introduce this new visa is on its way to being published in the Official State Gazette of Spain.
It’s a document/program that grants you the legal right to work remotely while living in a place away from your country where you are a permanent resident.
A digital nomad shouldn’t be confused with a remote worker who could be working from their country of permanent residence instead of being present at an office.

The method of working has changed across the world for a lot of occupations. This is especially true for tech roles. Today, there’s no dearth of skilled workers who want to move to another country to work in Spain and/or establish an enterprise of their own there.
The Digital Nomad visa will help Spain host highly resourceful and skilled foreign workers who can work and/or run a company from Spain. This country is aiming to become one of the best places in the world to start a business. Its law on start-ups will help the country attract potential workers, serial entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurs to its shores.
Here’s a significant quote to make you understand how Spain is planning to benefit from the Digital Nomad visa.
“Serial entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs represent a high percentage of start-up founders in our country. They are a guarantee of success because the undertaking is a continuous learning process and their start-ups usually achieve better results. Betting on them is going to be very beneficial for the sector and for our country,” |
Francisco Polo, the High Commissioner for Spain Entrepreneurial Nation |
The Digital Nomad visa will be launched in January 2023. This will follow the Start-up Act that has been introduced already.
The minimum requirement to apply for this visa will be EUR2,000 per month.
The highlights of the visa will be that it will inherit the virtues coming from the Start-up Law in Spain. These include:
These moves are bound to encourage potential foreigners to invest in emerging tech-based companies in Spain. Spain will also reduce Corporation Tax payable for the aforementioned categories of enterprises. The Spanish authorities have approved the reduction of Corporation tax from 25 to 15 percent for digital nomads and start-ups.
