English & Work experience criterions for Australia TSS visas

The newly launched Australia TSS Visas have a specific set of requirements including English language and Work experience. Below are the details:

Work Experience:

Minimum 2 years of work experience is mandatory for the applicants of the TSS Visas. This must be in the occupation that is nominated or in the relevant field. Earlier, 457 Visas accepted applicants even without work experience provided they possessed the appropriate qualification, as quoted by the ACACIA AU.

The implication is that individuals who do not possess work experience are not eligible for the TSS. However, it appears that there is certain flexibility for consideration of the work experience. This need not always be in the occupation that is nominated but can be in the appropriate field.

The waiver of 2-years work experience is available for those who are sponsored through a Labour Agreement.

English Language:

The English language requirement for the Short-term stream is an aggregate score of 5 in IELTS. None of the scores must be below 4.5 in any of the four bands. A range of alternative tests in English is also acceptable similar to the 457 visas.

The English language requirement for the Long-term stream is higher. Minimum of 5 in every IELTS band is needed average score of 5 is not adequate.

The exemptions for the English language are available similar to 457 visas that include:

• New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, the US, and the UK Passport holders

• Individuals who have finished minimum 5 years of English medium study

• ICTs that have $ 96, 400 as the base salary

Consular/Diplomatic appointments:

The English language requirement for the stream under Labour Agreement is less stringent. The applicants are required to demonstrate that they possess skills in the English language for performing the job functions. The reference to an official test in English is not required.
