Besides the constant pandemic, the total number of the first residence permits that have been issued in the EU to non-EU citizens increased from 31% to 2,952,300 in 2021 from its previous year below 2,955,300 which were issued in 2019.

Poland has nearly issued one million first residence permits, which is 33 percent of the bloc's total, of which 666,300 Ukrainians were in bilateral agreements and 790,100 were related to work.

All the residence permits that have been issued for the first time in the European Union, have almost reached the levels of the pre-pandemic levels in 2021. Poland is currently leading the bloc as it is mostly focuses on the immigration related to work, whereas France lures majority of the students.

Poland has nearly issued one million first residence permits, which is 33 percent of the bloc's total of which 666,300 Ukrainians were on bilateral agreements and 790,100 were related to work. Following, the six member states, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands, together made up about more than half of all the permits issued in the European countries in 2021.

The total number of residence permits issued to the Ukrainians were almost 30 percent which has been reported as the highest number of new residence permits since 2021 following with the citizens of Belarus and Morocco, accounting together for 10 percent.

Issuing 90,600 first permits specially to the Chinese citizens, France has been the most familiar destination for students from non-EU countries so far in 2021.
