Highlights: IRCC conducts the first round of Trade occupation-specific draw

• Canada held its first-ever round of Express Entry draw for Trades occupation on August 3, 2023.
• The draw invited 1,500 eligible candidates who cleared the requirement criteria.
• The minimum cut-off score set for the draw was 388.
• Some professions like electricians, contractors, welders, plumbers, and similar jobs are eligible under the Trades- occupation category.

Trade-Occupation category-based Express Entry draw

• The IRCC announced the category-based Express Entry draw on May 31, 2023.
• Six primary categories were included in the Express Entry category-based draws.

The categories that are included in the category-based draws are as follows:

• Healthcare occupations
• Transport occupations
• Trade occupations
• French- language proficiency
• Agriculture and Agri-food occupations
• STEM occupations

The list of job roles that are eligible for the Trades occupation category is listed below:

• Contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers and servicers
• Welders and related machine operators
• Electricians (except industrial and power system)
• Plumbers
• Carpenters
• Construction millwrights and industrial mechanics
• Heating, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics
• Machine fitters
• Elevator constructors and mechanics
• Residential and commercial installers and servicers
