Details of the Innovative Workation Visa:

South Korea has announced plans to introduce a new visa for foreign nationals to work without any hazed for up to one year with South Korea’s Innovative Workation Visa. This new initiative encourages individuals to stay and work in the country until a certain period aligned with the workstation trend.

 

Previously, foreign nationals interested in working and traveling in Korea needed to get a tourist visa for a limited period of less than 90 days. The new proposed workation visa allows individuals to stay up to one year and can be extended later on.

 

Workation is a fusion of work and vacation, where individuals continue their regular work routine while embarking on long-term travel.

 

Eligibility Criteria of South Korea’s Innovative Workation Visa:

• The visa's eligibility includes individuals associated with foreign companies who have worked in foreign companies for years. The visa can be extended to their families, excluding children aged 18 or older and the children of accompanying families.
• The applicant must have an income exceeding twice the Korean salary gross national income from the previous year.
• It required purchasing medical insurance and home evacuation coverage of more than 100 million.
• The applicant of a workation visa cannot work with a local company or participate in for-profit activities in Korea. That interest leads to a separate work visa.

Upcoming plans of the South Korean government:

According to a Korean report, the South Korean ministry unveiled the fourth edition of the foreign policy plan for 2027. This plan includes the creation of an immigration policy and promoting it. The primary focus is streamlining strategy development and making it a better place for immigrants.

 

To restrict the social exclusion of vulnerable immigrants, the system allows all foreign children to apply for birth registration.

 

Currently, the government announced its plan to reduce the number of illegal immigrants from 420,000 to 200,000 by promoting a five-year plan.
