Details of the initiatives taken by USCIS to complete the pending filings:

  • Reducing Backlogs

In 2023, USCIS received 10.9 million pending cases, out of which they completed 10 million pending cases. USCIS reduced the pending backlogs by 15% in 2023.

USCIS had promised more than 878,500 new U.S. citizens to get their case filed completed, including 12,000 members of the military, who were affected by backlogs.

By the end of the year, the natural application processing time was reduced by 10.5 months to 6.1 months.

This initiative reduced the waiting time for most of the applicants who were waiting for U.S. visas.

  • Improving Customer Experiences:

USCIS implemented a new self-service tool that has been a boon for them. This new self-service tool is for online rescheduling of biometrics appointments. In 2023, this self-service tool rescheduled over 33,000 appointments. Later on, in December 2023, USCIS changed the capability of the self-service tool to 430,000, which made the procedure more helpful. This tool will reduce USCIS phone queries to 31% and 1.5 million queries annually.

  • Making immigration stronger for Workers and Employers:

USCIS issued over 192,000 employment-based immigrant visas, ensuring every visa was used in 2023. In 2023, the agency later supported the U.S. government to increase the maximum validity period of Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) to five years.

USCIS removed biometrics fees and appointment requirements for applicants seeking a change or extension in immigration status.

  • Addressing Humanitarian Mission:

USCIS continues to address the human welfare needs around the globe that will protect the United States from oppression, violence, and other urgent circumstances.

Other measures:

  • In 2024, USCIS will work more on this procedure of processing delay. USCIS will maintain a processing time of 30 days for specific EAD applications.
  • USCIS has also proposed improving the H-1B program for speciality occupation workers.
  • USCIS, as a fee-funded agency, will improve the customer experience as the U.S. government will support it with a new fee schedule.
  • In 2024, USCIS will increase the refugee applications to 125,000 to fulfil their target.

Finally, USCIS will introduce Form I-129, including enhancing the new online filing tools that will be helpful for non-immigrant workers to opt the U.S. visa.
