Details of New Digital Nomad Visa:

The New Digital Nomad Visa allows an individual to reside and work in Japan for six months. This visa benefits the individual who moves from locations for a short period within 49 countries to work remotely in Japan with the "specified activities" visa category. Even self-employed applicants can apply for this visa.

 

Some Countries and territories that are eligible for this program have signed an agreement that eliminates the need for short-term visas in certain countries, such as:

 

• Japan
• The U.S.
• Australia
• Singapore.

 

A survey was conducted for the new digital Nomad visa, and the majority preferred to stay longer than the current 90-day limit for visa-free short-term stays. Remote workers are permitted to work from any location within Japan without any formal employment in the country.

 

The applicant applying for a Digital Nomad Visa must possess private health insurance. The visa also allows spouses and children to accompany the digital Nomad in Japan.

• Japan ranks over 50 countries in issuing Digital Nomad visas. Though the duration of stay varies from one another, South Korea allows up to two years of stay, whereas Taiwan allows three years with an option to apply for permanent residency.

 

Japan's government also plans to create specific digital nomad visas for advocate groups. The previous year, the government planned to develop such visas for tourism initiatives.
