Details of the industries that are being added to the Skilled Foreign Worker Visa:

On Friday, the Japanese government announced expanding the foreign skilled worker visa program. This initiative allows an individual to stay up to five years.

 

The recent addition of new industries to the Specified Skilled Worker visa brought the total count to sixteen categories. The new a sector includes:

 

  • Road
  • Railway Transportation
  • Forestry
  • Timber Industries

Factors Affecting the Skilled Foreign Worker Visa:

There are specific reasons to expand the Skilled Foreign Worker Visa, such as the ability to stay up to five years. Other than that, there are reasons such as:

 

  • Labour Shortages:

Japan has a demand for foreign workers have increased because of its shortage in sectors like transportation and logistics.

 

  • More visa targets:

In the next five fiscal years, the government will invite up to 820,000 skilled foreign workers under the visa program. This estimated figure is more than 2023.

 

  • Easy admission procedure:

The Japanese government swiftly accepts skilled foreign workers in newly added sectors.

 

  • Industry-specific Requirements:

With the introduction of the transportation sector, skilled foreigners can apply for roles as a driver of buses, taxis and trucks.

 

The applicant needs to have proficiency in Japanese up to the N3 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test.

 

In railway sectors, skilled workers can perform various roles, such as manufacturing trains/ cars, maintaining tracks, and serving as drivers, conductors, and station staff.

 

Requirements of the visa:

  • For the No.1 Skilled worker visa category, the applicant must show Japanese language proficiency.
  • In the No.2 skilled worker visa category, the applicant is allowed unlimited visa renewal, applying for permanent residency and can bring their families to Japan.

 

Both of the candidates in the visa programs are eligible for immediate employment.

 

Japan’s approach to expanding its foreign worker visa program focuses on addressing the labor shortages.
