The latest Express Entry draw has been conducted by Canada immigration authorities on March 4, 2020. In this draw, 3,900 Invitations were issued to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The draw stipulated a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score not less than 471. This was up by one point compared to the previous draw.
The draw was special in one respect. It was the first draw since Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) made a new record for most ITAs in a single draw. The record was set by inviting 4,500 candidates on February 19, 2020.
Canada’s target for people coming in via high-skilled immigration is targeted at 85,800 for this year. With the latest Express Entry draw, the total invitations till now have come up to 18,700. Last year, the total invites issued came to 85,300. The target set last year was 81,400 ITAs. It was further back in 2018 that IRCC made a new record for annual Express Entry ITAs. It came to 89,800 candidates.
The March 4 Express Entry was the 5th round of invitations under Express Entry in 2020. Overall, this is the 138th Express Entry draw conducted by Canada. The tie break was applied in the March 4th draw on February 24, 2020, at 06:02:57 UTC.
IRCC implemented the Express Entry. It's a system to manage skilled worker applications under federal economic programs. It was started on January 1, 2015. 3 programs come under the Express Entry:
There are lot of expectations the stakeholders in the program are keeping. They expect to see close to 30 draws. They want to issue more than 80,000 invitations in 2020. Most draws are suggested to stipulate CRS scores around 470. They speculate that this will enable Canadian immigration authorities to meet targeted annual immigration levels for this year.
