The US embassy in Hague (the Netherlands), has issued a reminder to travelers with a valid US visa or Electronic System Travel Authorization (ESTA) from outside the European Union territory. These travelers have been told that they can’t transit the airports in the Schengen area to arrive in the US.

Signing the proclamation on June 11, 2020, the US President Donald Trump imposed the prohibitive rule on aliens who were present in any of the Schengen countries within 14 days before their attempted entry or entry into the US. It doesn’t matter if they stayed in the Schengen area just to transit to the US.

The US embassies in other EU countries also have conveyed this proclamation to travelers attempting a trip or immigration to the USA transiting the Schengen area.

The measure was taken in view of the difficulties faced by the US to track and prevent possible carriers of COVID-19 from the Schengen area. The new rule has been imposed to ensure that those in the US won’t suffer from another surge in the pandemic.
