Options for Finland Work visa

Third-country citizens must apply for a residence permit first if they are planning to work in Finland on a Finland work visa. The type of residence permit applied for will be dependent on the nature of the occupation they will be into, working for their Finnish employer.

The following are the 3 categories of Finland work visas:

Business visa

This visa enables you to live in Finland for up to 90 days. This visa doesn’t allow you to directly interact with your job. Rather, it helps you to take part in seminars and conferences. This visa could be useful to you as an employee while the onboarding process is going on and you won’t stay back to work in Finland.

Residence permit for self-employment

This permit can be granted to individuals within a company. They could be associates, cooperative leaders, or private businessmen. Before granting this permit, it has to undergo registration with the National Patent & Registration Board’s Trade Register.

Residence permit for an employed person

There are 3 types of this most common type of Finland work visa under this category:

  • A - Continuous
  • B - Temporary
  • P - Permanent

A temporary permit is applied for by employees who are trying to obtain a residency permit in Finland for the first time. This could be a type A or B permit. Initially, the permit is given for a year. Ongoing residence permits in Finland could be extended for at the most 3 years.
