Many people who received invitations were in targeted sectors. This means these selected immigrants were chosen to live and work in Australia in those occupations that are on PMSOL. With such a selection, the Australian government intends to attract migrants who will help the country in its recovery post-COVID-19.
Australia work permit visa holders who have been sponsored by an employer in Australia for a position in one of the occupations in the PMSOL can even request an exemption from travel restrictions imposed by Australia. These restrictions were imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19. Nevertheless, they will have to follow the compulsory quarantine procedure of 14 days upon their arrival.
Many applicants whose occupations weren’t considered essential services, but had high points, did not receive invitations.
