New Immigrants who filed taxes in 2021 reached a 10-year record low:

According to 2020 admission, groups were the smallest in 10 years. These groups were distinguished by immigrants holding pre-admission experience, becoming the majority of the group for the first time in the country's history.

 

Among these groups, the tax filers consisted of:

 

  • 55% of Canadians, with a higher proportion who lived in Canada.
  • 44.5% need to learn about pre-admission.

 

In 2020, 22.5% filed taxes for work and study permits. Out of which:

  • 22.3% had a work permit
  • 8.5% had asylum claims
  • 1.9% had a study permit

Entry Wages for Immigrants in 2020:

For the immigrants admitted in 2020, the median entry wages earned one year after admission were highest in the previous ten admission years. Here is the table that shows the tax surge in different years:

In the tax year 2021, the median entry wages of women admitted increased by 27.1% to $30,500. In contrast, the median entry wages of women in 2019 was $24,000 in the tax year 2020.

 

In 2020, the median wage of men admitted was $44,100 in 2021, higher by 18.5% from $37,200 in 2020.

 

Median Wages for newcomers in 2020 with Pre-admission work experience:

Acquiring pre-admission expertise in Canada, including work and study experience, can help facilitate a smooth immigration procedure into Canadian society.

 

According to 2020 pre-admission experience, those with a study permit had lower median entry wages 2021 at $16,100.This count is similar to the median entry earning for a study permit 2018 ($15,900 in 2019). The median entry wages in 2020 are the same as their 2018 counterparts ($24,300 in both years).

 

Immigrants who were admitted in 2020 for both work and study have the highest median wage ($48,600 in 2021), 10.2% higher than that of 2019 tax-filing immigrants ($44,100 in 2020) and 4.5% higher than that of 2018 counterparts ($46,500 in 2019).

 

For immigrants admitted without pre-admission experience in 2020, median wages were $28,900 in 2021, 8.2% higher than in 2018.

The Median wages for 2021 admission categories:

Year over year, economic applicants consistently earned the highest, and refugees had the lowest median wages. Among the three most recent groups:

 

The highest median entry wage was: $51,200 in 2021,16.6% higher than that of 2019, which was $43,900 in 2020, and 12.8% higher than that of the 2018 admission group, which was $45,400 in 2019.

 

The entry-median wages for spouses and dependents are 12.9% higher than in 2018.

 

Growth in Median wages of immigrants in 2011:

The median wages of 2011 were identical to those in 2019 and 2020 at $37,500, which rose 9.6% to $41,100 in 2021.

 

In general, comparing median entry wages among this admission from 2018-2020, the long-term trend of median wages of the 2011 admission shows that pre-admission experience an essential role in immigrants' economic integration in a Canadian labour market where they are newly landed or established immigrants.
