Abstract: A new pathway to retaining international graduates in New Brunswick has been announced.

The Atlantic province of Canada, New Brunswick, has announced new plans to retain international graduates pursuing higher education in the province.

The move will help in addressing the workforce shortage in the 'Picture province' as it is popularly known. It will help in boosting the growth of the population as well as welcome individuals with diverse skills.

New Brunswick aims to attract International graduates who studied there. Boosting the population is vital to address the shortage in the workforce and utilize skilled professionals in companies.

International graduates are essential to hiring talented individuals with the required skills to sustain the economy.

The three-year program of Study and Succeed in New Brunswick offers international graduates resources, support, and network to boost the skilled workforce in the province.

The program is funded by ACOA or Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Opportunities NB under its REGI or Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program. Each agency contributes approximately 500,000 CAD, making it a total of 1 million CAD.

REGI is a national program to boost industrial and technology hubs and regional innovation ecosystems in specific regions.

Future Plans for international graduates in Canada

Last year, reports by the Conference Board of Canada stated that more international graduates need to be included in the PNP or Provincial Nominee Programs. The Board also emphasized about enhancing the settlement services provided by the provinces.

Canadian universities and colleges are popular among international students who wish to study abroad. Fifteen universities in Canada are ranked in the top 500 of the best universities in the world.

Since 2015, Canada has been doubling the number of study permits issued yearly. A study permit facilitates an international student to study in Canada at a valid institute for the specified study program.

After graduation, the international student is eligible to apply for a work permit through the PGWP or Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. The permit allows graduates to work in Canada. In this program, the permit issued is valid for the duration of the study program or a maximum of 3 years.
