Abstract: New Brunswick has announced the NBCWP program to attract essential professionals.

On November 7, 2022, New Brunswick's provincial government announced a new immigration pilot project, referred to as NBCWP or the New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot. It is aimed at attracting critical professionals to the province of New Brunswick.

The NBCWP pilot program is a joint venture between provincial and federal authorities. It aims to resolve shortages in the workforce in New Brunswick.

New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot a Boon… Know Why

The pilot provides economic immigration as well as settlement services, such as language and skills training to the immigrants who come to the province under this program. It will make it easier for immigrants to come to New Brunswick and integrate into the provincial community.

The Canadian employers who participate will be at an advantage in filling vacancies and immigrant candidates will have suitable work.

Employers in the NBCWP Program

The NBCWP immigrants will be employed by 6 employers in New Brunswick. They are:

  • McCain Foods
  • Groupe Savoie Inc.
  • Cooke Aquaculture Inc.
  • Imperial Manufacturing
  • Groupe Westco
  • D. Irving Ltd.

The Canadian employers were selected due to their reputed track record in the NBPNP or New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program, immigrant recruitment practices, and existing settlement programs.

Criteria for New Brunswick Critical Worker Pilot Employers

The eligibility criteria for Canadian employers in the NBCWP are:

  • Having comprehensive settlement plans for transportation and housing to support the establishment of applicants in their new communities and jobs.
  • The employer should also commit to long-term retention
  • Have extensive human resources recruitment planning and employing skilled international professionals, and for skills enhancement while on-the-job
  • Offer 200 hours of language training to the immigrants employed in the organization through the NBCWP program
  • Provide guidance and support to individuals who wish to pursue their secondary education equivalency in Canada

The pilot program will be valid for 5 years. It will be monitored and assessed regularly to be responsive to the needs of candidates and deliver the required outcomes for New Brunswick.
