Australia Announces New Skills Assessment Policy

The Australian government updated the immigration policies for skilled immigration candidates. The candidates with a skill assessment report of their nominated occupation are now eligible for applying for visas through the General Skilled Migration category. They will be required to apply for the visa within 60 days from the date of the issue of the invitation.

These changes are beneficial for the candidates who could not fulfill the eligibility criteria because of the lack of skills assessment reports.

New Policies for the Skilled Migration of Australia

Before introducing the new policy, if a candidate used to receive an invitation for submitting a skill assessment application, they could not do it because of the expiration of the report validity before receiving the invitation.

As per the updated policies, the candidates are now allowed to apply for the visa upon receiving the invitation, even after the expiry of their skill assessment. The government of Australia provides 60 days to get a valid skill assessment.

Candidates requiring skills assessment

The foreign skilled workers in the following points-tested General Skilled Migration visas will now be required to have skills assessment for the nominated occupations:

The candidates must be nominated for a relevant listed skilled occupation for the specific visa subclass. Candidates must submit proof to show that they are suitable for the occupation they have applied for while registering their application.

Get a skill assessment

The candidates will now have to contact the assessing authority of their nominated occupation. Before submitting their Expression of Interest in SkillSelect, they should complete their skills assessment.

*Note: Each assessing authorities will have their own customized procedures, fees, and timeframes.
