New Zealand extends Post Study Work Visa to 3 years for international students

Highlights: Post Study Work Visa validity extended up to 3 years

• International students can stay and work in New Zealand by applying for Post Study Work Visa (PSWV)
• The validity of the PSWV is 3 years
• Applicants who applied for a New Zealand Student Visa before May 11, 2022, are eligible for PSWV
• Students can work for any employer in any job if they have a degree level 7
• Applicants can apply for this visa only once

International students can work in New Zealand through Post Study Work Visa

Students who completed their studies in New Zealand can apply for Post Study Work Visa. The visa will be valid for 3 years.

Eligibility criteria for Post Study Work Visa

Candidates have to meet any of the conditions mentioned below to apply for the PSW visa:

• Have a degree level 7 or above qualification or
• Have a non-degree level 7 or qualification which should be available in the Qualifications Eligible for a Post Study Work Visa list

Applicants having a non-degree level 7 or below qualification should have a job which is related to their subject. Candidates who have applied on or before May 11, 2022, will be eligible for a PSW visa even if their qualification is not available in the Qualifications Eligible for a Post Study Work Visa list.

Qualifications for different degree levels

Students can study for any degree level and get a job accordingly. The qualifications for different degree levels are discussed here:

Degree level 7 or higher

The qualification of students will be considered at level 7 if the duration of their course is 30 weeks or more.

Degree level 4, 5, 6

Degree level 4, 5, 6 will be acceptable if the following conditions are fulfilled:

• The duration of the course should be 60 weeks or more or
• Gained 2 qualifications whose conditions are as follows:
  • Each qualification should have 30 weeks study
  • The level of the last qualification should be above the previous one
