Details of New Zealand wages threshold:

Wages thresholds are the minimum salary needed to qualify for certain visa types. This increase applies to most work visas, which also includes:  

 

  • Skilled Migrant Category
  • Green List Straight to Residence
  • Work to Residence visas
  • Parent Category residence class visa

 

To be eligible for these categories of visas, the applicant must earn at least NZD$ 31.61 per hour. Other than that, the wage threshold for the Transport Sector Work and Residence Visa will increase with the new median wage excluding bus drivers.

 

Exception for Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV):

Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) will have an increase in there visa category, keeping the threshold category at NZD$29.66 per hour. The accredited employer work visa includes work visa like:

 

  • The Partner of a Worker Work Visa
  • Variation of conditions for AEWVs, legacy Essential Skills work visas, interim visas granted under the Skilled Migrant Category, and Partner of a Worker work visas
  • Subsequent Migrant Exploitation Protection Visas.

 

Migrants looking for an AEWV Skilled Residence pathway must fulfil the salary criteria of threshold NZD$31.61 while applying, regardless of their current wages.

Sectors who agreed with the salary threshold:

Industries like tourism and hospitality operate under the sector agreement, allowing them to pay below the median wages for AEWVS.

 

Although these sectors, minimum wages are linked to median wages. Currently, the minimum wage is NZD$28.18 per hour, though the minimum wage is increasing for tourism and hospitality. The care workers sectors agree to a minimum salary of NZD$28.18 per hour. However, to opt for a residency permit, the care workers require a minimum wage of NZD$28.25 per hour.
