The provincial Immigration Minister Gerry Byrne announced that the yearly allotment of immigrants using PNP in Newfoundland and Labrador has been doubled. The allotment got doubled from 1,500 to 3,050 people. And with their families, the number can go up to 6,700 annually.

Last year, the province welcomed 3,495 new permanent residents. In January and February 2023, Newfoundland and Labrador received 1,585 new permanent residents. The province is planning to welcome 9,510 new immigrants by the end of 2023.
Newfoundland saw a demographic decline over the years, and the population is finally increasing due to immigration. In 2023, the province's population touched 531,948, reaching the highest level in more than twenty years.
Byrne said that the province welcomes skilled refugees and asylum seekers from Asia, South America, Africa, etc.
