Objectives of Nova Scotia’s strategic plan for French-Speaking People

 Nova Scotia’s Francophone new action plan aims to:

  • Increase Francophone community and partner engagement
  • Promotion and attraction of foreigners
  • Population growth programs
  • Retention and inclusion through settlement services
  • Research and evaluating programs in the Francophone community
  • Increase French-speaking people in Nova Scotia

Census 2021 revealed statistics of ‘Data on Languages’...

As per the census 2021 report, data on languages, currently Nova Scotia has more than 30,000 people speaking French as their first language.

Francophone immigration in Canada

During Francophone Immigration Week, Nova Scotia made an announcement that:

  • An awareness campaign for francophone immigrants on every November
  • The French-speaking immigrants' target is 4.4% outside Quebec by the end of 2023
  • 2018–23 Federal Action Plan for Official Languages acts as the main theme for attracting French immigrants
  • Canada allocated a $40.8 million budget to support this program
  • Amendments in Canada’s economic immigration policies, such as additional CRS points in Express Entry for French Speakers
  • Implementation of the Mobilité Francophone program, to assist employers by hiring French-speaking temporary workers outside of Quebec
  • Huge efforts in recruiting French-speaking foreigners/ migrants
