Nova Scotia sets immigration record in 2021

Nova Scotia has made a record of inviting immigrants who are skilled in different fields like transportation, healthcare, trade, hospitality, and education. The provincial Immigration Minister, Jill Balser, has said that newcomers bring a lot of jobs with them, and labor gaps are also filled. Besides this, the immigrants are an addition to the diverse culture of the province. The minister has also said that he will enrich the province with new talents, which will lead to economic growth.

Work programs of Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia has invited the immigrants through different work programs, and the popular one is Atlantic Immigration Pilot. This program has now become a permanent program for Ottawa. Following people can immigrate to Nova Scotia through this program.

These programs were able to invite around 49.5% immigrants in the first ten months of 2021.In spite of economic and financial problems, ten entrepreneurs were invited under two programs which include

  • Self-Employed program
  • Start-up Business Program

Ottawa has also faced the problem of shortage of labor, so it has to start a new program for a short time in which 90,000 applications have to be accepted for permanent residency. The program was closed on November5, 2021, but prior to that, 84,177, applications were received.

Doubling of the population in the coming years

Nova Scotia has a plan of doubling the population of the province in the next 38 years. It also plans to invite 25,000 people through various immigration streams. Along with it, the province also has the program to invite newcomers from other parts of Canada. Premier Tim Houston has asked schools, communities, employers, and citizens to welcome the people to Nova Scotia.

Retention rate

The retention rate of Nova Scoria is 70%. The government has given credits to the province for maintaining such a retention rate through settlement support services. The support services are provided by the Immigration Services Association of Nova Scotia. People like to settle in the province due to a lot of opportunities.
