NSW, Australia is getting ready to welcome international students willing to study in Australia by early 2021. To this purpose, the state will be putting to good use the lessons it learned from the hotel quarantine system. Australia practiced it on 60,000 travelers through Sydney as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The experience with that measure will serve as a good base for managing the international student influx. NSW expects these students at the beginning of the new year. In fact, Australia could open its borders to international students earlier than it does for international visitors to the country.
For realizing this plan, talks with the Vice-Chancellors in the university sector are on. Closer collaboration on the work at hand will be achieved as a result of these discussions.
A plan to establish a secure corridor scheme for international students to come back to Australia was tried but stalled. The reasons for that included the repatriation of Australian citizens, and the worsened COVID-19 situation in Victoria. There was also pressure put on the hotel quarantine system.
The current discussions with university Vice-Chancellors are to formulate a plan on creating a system of quarantine for students. This will be based on the experience of the government and in collaboration with NSW police.
Steps will be taken to create an optimal environment for international students in universities and the state itself. That will also act as a contributor to the state economy’s benefit.
The aim now is to enable international students to return before the start of the first semester next year. Apart from NSW, Australia’s Northern Territory and South Australia are working on bringing international students back too.
So, are you willing to study abroad Australia and its states? They are already planning what’s needed for students like you to join colleges and universities from next year.
