Ontario creates a buzz with its brief application intake

Employers in Ontario can nominate foreign workers as well as international students with an eligible job offer in the province. They can do this through the Foreign Worker and International Student streams. These come under the category of Employer Job Offer.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) Employer Job Offer category is meant for immigrants with a job offer from Ontario. Under the category, such immigrants can apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residency. They can submit their applications in Canada or from abroad. The only condition is that they have been hired for a permanent position by an employer from Ontario.

On March 3, 2020, Ontario opened applications for these two streams. The period of the application intake was short. The event had even experienced technical difficulties. Both streams reached their intake limit and hence have been closed.

OINP had released a statement to open applications to the International Student stream. But the intake process was stalled soon, reportedly due to technical issues. The application event was later re-opened. This time, it was opened along with the Foreign Worker Stream.  In a short time, applications to both streams reached their intake limits. Hence, they were closed.

As per OINP, there were 1,322 successful registrations during the short application intake. The ones registered will have received a file number. They can apply within 14 days. The application procedure will take 3 hours. It can be done on the OINP web portal.

The application drive saw high activity. But many desirous candidates were unable to register. The OINP is resolved to watch further application intakes in both streams this year. As of now, applications to these streams have been closed till further notice.

Even so, applications for the In-Demand Skills Stream under Ontario’s Employer Job Offer category is open.
