There’s a major update in immigration Australia has announced regarding the partner visas and other family visas issued by Australia. Foreign nationals who are partners of Australian citizens will not need to leave Australia to reapply for their partner/family visas.

This is a temporary rule is brought into effect to help such partners and Australians in the COVID-19 crisis period. The new change is bringing relief to families that have been tensed about the return of the foreign partners once they leave Australia before getting their new partner visa.

This concession will benefit close to 4,000 people currently in Australia who have made a visa application. These are mostly those who have applied for offshore partner visas.

These changes will come into effect in 2021. Applicants who have already received an email from DHA with an instruction to leave Australia must communicate in writing with the Department citing their situation and request for an extension to stay in the country. It will be mentioned that the request is made because the new arrangements are due to take effect.
