Australian immigration will be transformed in 2018. From replacement of 457 visas with TSS visa and changes to list of skilled occupations to Mandatory Provisional visa for PR, the changes will be fundamental.
TSS Visa will replace the 457 visas
Entirely new Temporary Skill Shortage Visa or TSS Visa will replace the 457 visas in March 2018. It will consist of 2 streams – Short Term and Medium Term stream. The STS permits stay of 2 years and MTS permits stay of 4 years. The STS is renewable only one time. STSOL list of occupations will be applicable for STS applicants.
Occupation lists will be changed
The list of occupations nominated for provisional and STS visas STSOL will be changed. Some of the occupations that are flagged for removal are Building Associate, Recruitment Consultant, Beauty Salon Manager, and Accommodation & Hospitality manager.
There are some occupations that are likely to be added to the STSOL list. These include Real Estate Representative, Real Estate Agent, Property Manager, Psychotherapist, and University Tutor.
Mandatory Provisional Visa for Australia PR applicants
The government of Australia is working on a plan to launch Mandatory Provisional Visa for Australia PR applicants. As per this, immigrants will be required to stay for a certain time before obtaining PR. It is also planned to decrease the number of visas to 10 from existing 99 to simplify the process. This will be another crucial transformation in the Australian immigration scenario, as quoted by the SBS.
Provisional sponsored Parent visa
A fresh Provisional sponsored Parent visa was announced in the federal budget for 2017-18. It was expected to be offered by November 2017. However, it has been delayed and is expected to be offered from 2018. Its approval is pending in the Senate and will permit parents of immigrants to reside for extended periods in Australia.
Changes to Partner visas
Australia Partner visas were expected to be changed in 2017. However, Migration Amendment Bill 2016 (C) is pending approval from Senate. Once enacted, the bill will set the framework for sponsoring partner visas. It will lay enhanced focus on sponsors’ assessment.
