On April 15, 2021, the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island held a PNP draw that invited 156 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.

140 of the invites went to Labor Impact and Express Entry candidates while 16 went to Business impact candidates. All candidates required a minimum CRS score of 75 to be eligible for invitations from the PNP draw.

With PNP draws conducted, provinces can find skilled and qualified immigration candidates who are willing to work in Canada in its provinces to fill labor gaps in the market. PEI also intends to find the best candidates to join the province’s workforce through its own PNP that operates within guidelines that are federally approved. It’s also true that PNP categories and streams do align with the federal Express Entry system many a time.

With the help of Canada’s federal government, the losses from the decline in immigration to PEI due to COVID-triggered will be recuperated. This is also part of the effort to achieve the ambitious target of getting 80,800 new immigrants in 2021.

The Labor Impact category

The Labor Impact category is meant for foreign nationals with a valid job offer in PEI as well as the support of an employer in the province. There are 3 streams involved in this category:

  • International Graduate
  • Critical Worker
  • Skilled Worker

Candidates must submit an EOI to get considered for a provincial nomination via this category.

The Express Entry category

The Express Entry category is an enhanced PNP in PEI. That means the category is linked with the Canadian government’s federal Express Entry system.

The federal Express Entry system manages the applications for Canada immigration. These applications are for 3 economic-class immigration programs namely FSTP, FSWP, and CEC.

The candidate profiles get ranked by CRS considering factors like education, age, work experience, and language skills in English or French.

Express Entry candidates who get nominated by PEI will get 600 extra CRS points. This will effectively guarantee that they will receive ITAs in an upcoming federal Express Entry draw. There they can apply for Canada PR.

Business Impact category

Candidates in the Business Impact category must meet the minimum score required to go to the next stage of the application process. The minimum score required differs with every draw. In the April 15 draw, PEI issued invitations under the Work Permit Stream. This stream is meant for foreign entrepreneurs who are ready to own and run a business in PEI.
