Details of How to Apply for Schengen Visa Digitally:

EU government approved Schengen visa for a digitalization shift. The online procedure will remove consulate appointments or service provider office visits. This initiative also includes no more physical stickers on the passport. The process to apply for Schengen visa online:

  • The Schengen short-stay visa will include travel documents with biometric data and fee payment.
  • The approved applicant must go under database crosschecking and receive a digitally signed barcode for printing or digital storage.
  • New or first-time applicants with updated biometrics must attend an in-person appointment for double verification.
  • Australia already has a visa system in which the online visa is linked to a person’s passport without the need for a sticker.

Some countries still need to apply for ETAs

Citizens over 60 countries won’t need a short Schengen visit visa. Out of which some countries are

  • Australia
  • Britain
  • Canada
  • New Zealand
  • The United States

The Schengen area comprises 23 of the 27 EU member countries. However, visitors from these 60 countries will soon need to apply for pre-screened entry via the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). This system aims to make the travel authorization process smooth for eligible visitors to the Schengen area.

Visitors entering the European Union with a visa or visa waiver plus ETIAS will go through an automatic EU Entry/Exit System .
